SARASOTA – A quick place to pick up bagels, lox and other fare from a New York deli is Lox’ n Egg Bread Company.
It’s the perfect place to come weekend mornings for breakfast, with a great selection and fast service. It is also a true deli; you go up to the counter to order, and then they call you to pick up your tray. Also a savings as you dont have to pay for a waiter.
In Sarasota there are bagel chains like Einstein’s, but its not the same thing as places like Lox n Egg. For instance, they have bagels and bialys, which are basically unboiled bagels with no holes and a depression in the middle where good things are baked.
My wife’s cousin Elizabeth, a New Yorker, swears by them.
Prices are great; you can get a bagel for a buck and a toasted one with butter for just a bit more. Bagels and lox come on a platter with a side like potato salad, which can make it a lunch.
They are not open on Monday, and on weekends open at 7 a.m. They are located south of downtown Sarasota just south of Tamiami and Bee Ridge Road, right next to Trader Joes, convenient for a pre-shopping trip snack.
