GRAYTON BEACH – A jazzed up historic cottage is now on the market, and owned by the town namesake.
Dating to the 1890s and closely connected to Charles T. Gray, the community’s namesake, the landmark residence known today as The Grayton House is listed for $10.75 million by Michael Tounge of Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty.
A reconstruction and expansion completed in 2022 retained the old structure while bringing the residence to modern building standards and expanding it from approximately 2,200 square feet to 6,225 square feet of interior living space. The house now includes six king bedrooms, a seventh bedroom with built-in bunk beds, eight bathrooms.
“Properties along 30A are often described as unique, but 10 Hotz Avenue truly exists in a category of its own,” said global real estate advisor Michael Tounge, in a press release. Only six families have owned the house during its approximately 127-year history. During World War II, it was used by the Coast Guard. It has had a number of names, including Grayton Hotel and Grayton Grand. It was also called the Wash-a-Way, in reference to its status as remaining during storms.
It is represented by Scenic Sotheby’s International Realty, locally owned and operated since 1998. The firm of 100 full-time real estate agents, led by Blake Morar, Chris Abbott and Wes Madden. They focus on an area from 30A from Destin to Panama City Beach. In 2013, the firm affiliated with the Sotheby’s International Realty brand.
