Florida is full of mermaids. Pretty ones. Live ones!
You just have to look underwater, where mermaids live. A quick roundup of mermaid haunts; these aren’t the only ones, just the easiest ones to find. Here are the top five, with two runner ups:
- Weeki Wachee. The mermaids have lived here since 1946 when former Navy SEAL Newton Perry found them. Even Paris Hilton has visited. Today, they star on a calendar.
- The Sheraton Yankee Clipper. The venerable nautical-themed hotel in Fort Lauderdale has a mermaid show in their Wreck Bar. A Florida classic.
- Ariel’s Secret Grotto. This is the place in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom where Ariel lives. Its not too long a wait, and your girls get to sit down and actually talk to Ariel in a shell.
- Florida Marlins Mermaids These mermaids are best known for their appearance with the Major League Baseball team, the Florida Marlins. They are frequently out of water; we hope they don’t get too dried out by the dugout.
- The Frisky Mermaid, the bar and restaurant in St. Augustine, just might have a mermaid show up, but she won’t be wearing fins. Part of the Florida House Inn, built in 1857, it has certainly seen a few mermaids show up.
