SARASOTA – Artists rely on various signs and symbols to impart their work with greater meaning. The study of these signs and symbols within a work of art is known as iconography. On select dates in March and April, The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art’s Signs & Symbols: Iconography in Art History six-part series will examine how this symbolic language transforms over various times and places in the Western artistic tradition, from Classical to Contemporary.
