Very often, the ride you think might still be there at Walt Disney World isn’t. One of the more unfortunate changes was the removal of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
As Disney has changed how it marketed Disney World toward things like Princesses and such, its patrons have come to expect different things.
Obviously, Disney has reasons for removing a ride, and perhaps this one was even more at threat because it takes up alot of real estate, right in the middle of the park.
But the main reason is that to enjoy the ride, you have to suspend your disbelief, and the way the park was perceived, you don’t really do that the same way. For instance, the Tiki Room and Jungle Cruise scripts were re-written to include irony.
In case you never got to see it, here is a vintage view of it from the 1980s. I would love it if folks would comment on why the ride’s popularity dropped, and how Disney patrons expectations have changed.
