Duke Energy Florida customers to see lower rates in January 2027

Duke Energy Florida customers are expected to see lower electric bills in January 2027 compared with December 2026, following a rate filing the company submitted to the Florida Public Service Commission on Sept. 3.

A typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month would see a $0.71 decrease in the monthly bill, according to Duke Energy Florida. Commercial and industrial customers would see reductions ranging from 0.8% to 3.6%, depending on several factors.

“What matters to our customers matters to us, and right now, we know they’re carefully watching every dollar,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president, in a press release. “While we’re glad to start 2027 with a rate decrease, we’ll remain focused on making smart, disciplined investments that allow us to keep our costs in check and continue delivering increasingly reliable service all year long.”

Duke Energy Florida said fuel costs are decreasing while some costs associated with grid investments are increasing slightly in 2027. The company also said a 2% increase in the base rate will not take effect because of a tax strategy it recently implemented, which it said will provide $50 million in customer savings next year.

The proposed rates are subject to approval by the Florida Public Service Commission.
