ST. PETERSBURG – Tampa International is a great airport, with low fares, easy parking, fast TSA and sensible organization. However, some need a flight that is even cheaper.
Enter St. Petersburg/Clearwater International. While there isnt much international about it, it serves much of the United States with cheap flights through Allegiant, the discount carrier.
The airport is small, and under renovation; it is about 15 minutes from Tampa and nearer to Gulf beaches than Tampa. Getting in and out of the parking area is actually faster than a Wal-Mart, and the parking just as close.
The airport is used by a wide variety of folk, and the passengers are no better or worse dressed and comported than legacy carriers, except for the fact that business travelers largely avoid the airport unless they are commuting weekly across the East Coast on their own dollar to jobs in different states. The airport is mostly used by large traveling families, retirees and students.
