On Sanibel, Timbers’ Sensible in Town Seafood

1 min read

SANIBEL – Dinner on Sanibel means selecting one of about two to three dozen restaurants along a long strip of sand beach. The challenge is that you are always a tourist, because the island is all tourist, the local is tourist. If that makes sense.

One perennially popular and sensible restaurant is Timbers, a seafood restaurant that is part of the Prawnbroker restaurant group, with snazzy restaurants on the East Coast. It’s a nice setting, refreshing to see a straightforward seafood restaurant that gives you a handsome, nautical looking decor.

There is not really a view; you are up on a second floor and park underneath. The food is consistent, and unpretentious. The decor is filled with local seafood items and nautical decorations. Of particular interest to me is the picture frame with different oyster shells from across the Eastern U.S. Yours truly particularly appreciated seeing Virginia oyster shells on the wall. There were shells from the James River, Watch House Point, Witch Duck, Stingray Point and Chincoteague.

It’s not on the water; but they promise everything else served is fresh and some of it local.
