Sol Meyer Deli Downtown Sarasota

1 min read

SARASOTA – The new New York deli on Main Street is Sol Meyer. Open just about a month, it feels like it has been there forever. With about 20 or so tables, incandescent exposed light bulbs and a concrete floor, it has the feel of something northeastern.

As soon as we sat down, the waitress gave us cole slaw and pickles, and were offered Dr. Brown sodas, but ordered coffee. Coffee was robust without being bitter, like so much of the bitter brew coffee at Starbucks.

We ordered a pastrami sandwich and a reuben. While the sandwiches were not inexpensive (around $16), they were giant, and had fresh heaps of pastrami. They came within 10 minutes. It was enough to take the second half home. The potato salad was particularly good, with added hard boiled eggs to give it some heft.

The atmosphere was convivial and friendly, as if it had been around for years. In fact, one of the staff was late; patrons were amused as he did ten pushups before he washed up and began work.
