One option for getting around Florida is the Megabus, a double-decker scheduled operation that has service to Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Gainesville and Jacksonville and out-of-state service to Atlanta, New Orleans and Mobile, among other destinations. While the bus says $1, fares are typically around $30 and up.
It’s a useful option to get to and around Florida, and in some cases easier than flying within the state. Unfortunately, it doesn’t serve a large number of Florida’s smaller cities that are worth visiting; for that, you would need to use Greyhound, which serves the state with dozens of cities with wi-fi buses.
Megabus has been excellent competition for Greyhound, and Greyhound has stepped up their service because of innovations like Megabus. Sadly, Megabus has not introduced their Megabus Gold product in Florida.
Either one is vastly improved from the bus services of old. Indeed, flying has become so trashy and bus-like that often there is no difference in clientele and amenities. In fact, with free baggage, electric plugs and walking room, it’s worth a consideration for the traveler who is going where the bus is going.
